Baptism

“For in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
Gal. 3:26-27

A Sacrament

In the United Church of Canada we celebrate two sacraments: baptism and communion. Baptism is a sacrament that affirms an individual’s belovedness as a child of God and welcomes him or her into the body of Christ. It is a celebration of new life in Christ and of God’s love and grace. Baptism can take place for someone of any age.

A relationship and commitment

Baptism takes place within community. The person being baptized makes promises of faith before God and the congregation. When a young child or an infant is baptized, the parents make the promises on their child’s behalf. The congregation also makes promises: to be a loving and supportive community where the baptized individual can grow in faith and in relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our hope and expectation when someone chooses to be baptized or to have their child baptized at Westminster U.C. is this: that Christ and the Christian faith is important to them and they intend to make Westminster their family church where they will participate in its life and work.

Next Steps

Baptisms generally take place on the 4th Sunday of every month with some exceptions. If you are interested in baptism at Westminster please contact the church office and request an information booklet.
